Electronics is now one of India's fastest-growing export categories, and LED lighting is a practical way into it for manufacturers in Delhi NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra and the South. Buyers in the Gulf, Africa, Europe and the USA buy bulbs, tube lights, panels, street lights and strip lights. Every market has its own safety and energy rules, so certification is the main hurdle.
To export LED lights from India, get an IEC, GST registration with an LUT and an RCMC from the relevant export promotion council. LED lamps fall under HS code 8539 52 and LED luminaires under heading 9405. Get the certifications the destination requires, such as CE and RoHS for the EU, UKCA for the UK, UL or ETL and FCC for the USA, and SASO for Saudi Arabia, and check rules of origin if you use imported components.
Classification of LED products changed in recent HS revisions, so confirm the 8-digit code with your customs broker. See our HS code guide.
Buyers usually ask for test reports from an accredited lab, including photometric data such as lumen output, efficacy, colour temperature, CRI and power factor, and lifetime claims.
Many Indian LED makers import chips, drivers or housings. That is allowed, but preferential duty under a trade agreement such as India-UAE CEPA depends on meeting the agreement's rules of origin, and some markets apply higher duties to goods judged to originate elsewhere. Keep a bill of materials and supplier invoices so you can prove origin. See our certificate of origin guide.
Pack each unit in a printed box with the required markings, then in master cartons with drop-tested inserts. Agree the warranty period, often 1 to 3 years, and how failed units will be replaced. Quote per piece FOB with wattage, lumen output, colour temperature, certifications and warranty stated. For new buyers, take an advance or letter of credit.
