To export brass and metal handicrafts from India, get an IEC, GST registration with an LUT and an RCMC from EPCH. Buyers order by finish as much as by design: antique brass, polished brass, nickel or chrome plating, powder coating, copper and bronze tones, enamel and lacquered finishes. Agree the finish on a signed-off sample, and ask for an anti-tarnish lacquer where the buyer expects the shine to last. Check for even plating, no sharp edges, stable bases and correct weight, since buyers often specify the weight of solid brass pieces.
Brass contains some lead. US buyers commonly ask for California Proposition 65 compliance, and children's products face stricter limits. Food-contact items such as bowls and tumblers need food-safe linings or coatings and must pass the buyer's migration tests in the EU and USA. Ask the buyer for their test list before production and test at an accredited lab.
Wrap each piece in tissue or poly to protect the finish, use foam or moulded pulp for heavy pieces, and pack in strong export cartons. Add silica gel against tarnish on long sea journeys. Use ISPM 15 pallets if palletised. See packaging and labelling requirements.
Importers and retailers in the USA, Europe, the UK and the Gulf buy metal decor for every season, with big orders for Christmas and festive ranges placed months in advance. Gift companies and hotels order for projects. Send a catalogue with finishes, sizes and weights, keep a stock collection for quick orders, and respond fast to brassware buyer requirements.
