Engineering goods are India's largest export category, covering auto components, machinery, pumps and valves, castings and forgings, fasteners, hand tools and steel products. Buyers in the USA, Europe, the Gulf and Africa source from Indian clusters such as Pune, Chennai, Rajkot, Coimbatore, Ludhiana, Jamshedpur and Delhi NCR. Most orders are made to drawings, so technical documentation matters as much as price.
To export engineering goods from India, get an IEC, GST registration with an LUT and an RCMC from EEPC India. Classify the product under the right HS chapter, mainly 73 (iron and steel articles), 84 (machinery), 85 (electrical) or 87 (vehicle parts). Meet the buyer's drawing, material and test requirements, hold the certifications the market expects, such as ISO 9001, CE or IATF 16949, and for iron, steel and aluminium goods going to the EU, be ready to share emissions data under CBAM.
Parts are often classified with the machine they belong to, so confirm the code with your customs broker. See our HS code guide.
The EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism covers iron, steel, aluminium and many products made from them, including fasteners and some pipes and structures. Since 2026, EU importers must account for the emissions embedded in these goods, so they ask Indian suppliers for production data. Keep records of the steel or aluminium you use and its supplier's emissions data. In the USA, tariffs on steel, aluminium and some derived products and auto parts have changed several times; check the current rate for your code with your buyer before quoting. See our US trade update.
Most buyers start with a first article or sample batch, checked against the drawing. After approval, agree a quality plan: inspection points, sampling levels and the documents that ship with each lot. Quote per piece or per kg FOB, stating the material grade, surface finish, tolerances, packing and tooling cost. Tooling and dies are often paid separately. For new buyers, take an advance or a letter of credit; for regular buyers, ECGC cover can protect open account terms. See the ECGC guide.
The USA, the UAE, the UK, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Brazil and African markets are large buyers of Indian engineering goods. On BuyGenix you can see live requirements for auto and engine parts, industrial pumps and CNC machines and tools.
EEPC India, the Engineering Export Promotion Council, issues the RCMC for engineering goods exporters.
Yes, for iron, steel, aluminium and many products made from them. EU importers must report embedded emissions, so they ask Indian suppliers for production data.
PPAP, the Production Part Approval Process, is the set of documents and samples automotive buyers use to approve a new part, including dimensional reports, material certificates and process capability data.
The USA, the UAE, the UK, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Brazil are among the largest buyers.
We handle IEC, GST, LUT and RCMC registration for engineering exporters.
