Foreign Trade Policy के अनुसार हर export के लिए तीन documents ज़रूरी हैं: bill of lading या airway bill (transport document), commercial invoice cum packing list, और shipping bill। इनके साथ ज़्यादातर exporters को IEC, GST LUT, AD code और RCMC, buyer और bank के documents जैसे proforma invoice, purchase order और letter of credit, और product certificates जैसे certificate of origin या phytosanitary certificate चाहिए।

एक बार लेने वाले registrations

Buyer और bank documents
- Proforma invoice और buyer का purchase order या sales contract
- Payment LC से हो तो letter of credit (देखिए LC क्या है)
- DP या DA collection के लिए bill of exchange
- CIF या CIP में marine या air cargo insurance certificate
Product और origin certificates
- Certificate of origin, trade agreement के तहत preferential या non-preferential। देखिए certificate of origin guide।

- Buyer या destination देश की ज़रूरत हो तो health, quality या inspection certificates
- Fumigation certificate, और wooden packaging पर ISPM 15 marking
Shipment के बाद
- Let Export Order वाली shipping bill की copy
- Payment आने पर bank realisation record
- RoDTEP, duty drawback और GST refund के records
